I can't tell you how many websites I've visited that make it difficult or even impossible to contact someone at the business. Businesses spend thousands on graphics and design yet neglect the most important element of the website.
Smaller businesses should have their phone number and/or e-mail address on every page of the website. Some web designers say, "there's no good place to put it in this design." Well, then change the design. This is a critical element for a business website, so make it a priority.
Larger businesses should include a link to the Contact Us page on every page of the site. This page should make it easy for the visitor to find the information she needs. There should also be a catch-all number or e-mail when people can't figure out who to contact. Your phone system probably has a "Dial 0 for the operator" so include the same thing on your website.
And while we're on this subject, what's with all these "click the map" things just to try to find a location. Quite frankly they are a pain in the neck to use. They require far too many clicks and page reloads.
Give users an alphabetical list by state and city. Better yet, let them enter a ZIP code and you provide the locations nearest that ZIP.
Put yourselves in the shoes of potential customers, Would you want to spend your money with a company that makes it difficult to spend your money with them?
